Big Dog Motorcycles Expands Factory With Industry's First Dealer Support Center And Revamps Education Program :
Underscoring its aggressive commitment to expand dealer training, Big Dog Motorcycles, the world's largest manufacture of custom bikes, has inaugurated its Dealer Support Center
on its campus in Wichita, Kansas, and is developing a new dealer education program.
While the all new 15,000 square foot facility's primary focus is to provide Big Dog Motorcycles' growing dealer network an avenue for hands-on technical and service training, the building
will also house the company's technical support, parts sales, and customer service teams. In total, nearly twenty employees will support the center. These cross-functional teams will work
to solve dealer's service issues, address technical concerns, strive to ensure motorcycle are repaired as quickly as possible, and deliver the most advanced technical education program in
the company's industry.
"The world-class center will provide our dealers with prompt, courteous, and accurate service while being an excellent training facility for dealer service technicians and other personnel,"
commented Sheldon Coleman, company founder and CEO, who announced the expansion. " The new faciilty complements our dealer-centric strategy to continuously provide the tools neccessary for Big Dog Motorcycles dealers to stay ahead in such a competitive industry. "
"No other custom motorcycle manufacture is poised to grant dealers with similar education opportunities, especially in such a top-notch facility. Thia new milestone constitues an inportant competitive advantage for Big Dog Motorcycles and our dealers as we all strive to deliver total satisfaction to our customers," he added.
The existing building, formerly home to another Wichita company, is currently being renovated with new office space, computers and software, a host of tools, and teaching equipment and will see its first technical classes in fall 2007.
Big Dog Motorcycles' new dealer education program will set new standards in the indusrtry as well. Led by the company's Education Manager, Kevin Brunton, the new program is also expected to launch in the fall.
The company's annual Technical Summit, an annual training event, has grown in attendance since its 2002 inception. Last year, nearly 200 service technicians came from dealerships around the country to the factory for training. The event required a staff of 30, including 25 instructors, and eight classrooms.
The year-after-year expansion in attendance, class size, and curriculum, as well as varying levels of current tech knowledge and experience, prompted Big Dog Motorcycles to entirely restructure its program.
"Our dealers have made it clear that sales and service training is considered a very important issue for their business," said Brunton. "Big Dog Motorcycles responds with an all-new
education plan that will offer every dealer the opportunity to help build their business and improve their staff through one of the custom industry's most comprehensive programs, ultimately resulting in improved customer satisfaction."
The multi-faceted program includes traditional training in a small-class environment, new on-line training, hands-on repair and maintenance, and six seperate intence training modules that target specific components of the motorcycle ranging from engine and fuel systems to the transmission and clutch assembly.
In addition, to receive the highest certification level - Master Certified - the technician must perform a complete motorcycle rebuild at the factory. The three-level certification program element also includes Technician and Certified Technician. Before receiving each level, certain requirements need to be fulfilled.
Complementing the wealth of service training available under the program, an additional sales training component equips dealer personnel with product knowledge, communication and customer service techniques, sales fundamentals, and retail financing options that will improve the dealer's overall business.
"Big Dog Motorcycles is committed to advancing our dealers through notonly the best product line available, but also through a comprehensive training program and best-of-breed dealer support network that helps them effectively sell and service our award-winning bikes," Coleman continued. "The complete package constitutes our pledge to continually seek ways to strengthen our dealers; it's accelerating our leadership within the custom industry."
